Chris Mallon

AN ELDERLY woman died in a collision near Nar Nar Goon last Thursday afternoon.

The woman, believed to be in her 70s, was the front-seat passenger in an old-model, fawn-coloured Toyota four-wheel-drive travelling westbound on Princes Highway. A police spokeswoman said about 4pm the vehicle was hit from behind by a 10-tonne truck also travelling in a westerly direction on the highway.

The woman died at the scene.

The driver of the 4WD, a man also believed to be in his 70s, was taken by air ambulance to the Alfred Hospital and is in a serious but stable condition.

The truck driver, a man believed to be in his 30s, was uninjured and is assisting police with their inquiries.

Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or may have seen the fawn-coloured 4WD before the accident.

They would particularly like to speak to the driver of a Mitsubishi Triton ute, who witnessed the collision and spoke to another witness.
